Book author, Marla Heller, is a Registered Dietitian, holds a Master of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she also completed doctoral coursework in public health and epidemiology, where her research focused on the DASH diet and the Mediterranean diet. She was trained in DASH by one of the architects of the original NIH research and has been working for over 20 years to help her patients put DASH into practice. She was a dietitian at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center, covering the CICU and Cardiac Step-Down Unit. Heller was a civilian dietitian with the US Navy, worked with the US Department of Health and Human Services, and has been a spokesperson for the Greater Midwest Affiliate of the American Heart Association.
